These analog enthusiasts in a digital world troll VHS bins around the country for fodder to slice and dice into Internet-sized portions on the video blog Everything Is Terrible. Their harvest has included too many popular online videos to name (So Your Cat Wants a Massage? is probably their biggest, but supercuts covering human incompetence as portrayed in infomercials and several different inanimate objects Jesus has been spotted in are surely their best) and enough mascots to form a football team with (Duane is their spirit quarterback). What resounds even more than their retro-media ingenuity, though, is their ability to re-edit their source material into videos that are cutting but not nasty – in doing so, they turn the word "terrible" into a great thing.

Writes Videogum, and is able to cover the breadth of pop culture with a single, distinct voice. He handles long-form (he recapped the entirety of the first season of thirtysomething) and short (he gets really worked up about film trailers!). Perhaps most impressively, he heads a legion of readers and commenters who are proud to be called "monsters."

If there is an art to clipping, Tracie is its Norman Rockwell -- her TV coverage on Jezebel gets right to the point, reflecting the ridiculous state of our culture in bite-size bits. Her weekly "10 Things You May Have Missed on TV" posts are treasure chests of hidden gems and her supercuts are sharply observed. Through all of her clipping and writing, you get the sense that you're being curated by someone who lives and breathes television, and that is in fact, absolutely the case. I've watched her do both.

Everyday for several hours, Dlisted's Michael K riffs on mainstream (and often left-field) entertainment news. He rarely misses a beat and often creates jokes that endure far beyond Dlisted (one recent example is his dubbing of La Toya Jackson – "Detective La Toya" – was then referenced on RuPaul's Drag Race). Michael K's genius is making it all look so easy, which you know it isn't if you've ever tried short-form celeb blogging. Those who write gossip blogging off as vapid simply haven't spent enough time at Dlisted. It puts everyone to shame.

As if reality TV weren't fictive enough, Lawson's fantastical recaps on Gawker (mostly centering on Bravo's Housewives franchise) are proof positive that there's plenty of room for innovation within long-form writing on the Internet. And the fact that they're so rapturously received proves that there's, in fact, hunger for it.

Potes recaps on Television Without Pity in long, all-text style, still. Just like the olden days...of 2004 or so. I never really understood how fans of a show could act like an actual cult until I saw what a great leader she is (particularly regarding America's Next Top Model). My No. 1 inspiration to start blogging.

Without a trace of irony or the patience for a high-/low-culture debate, Peter Robinson's Popjustice covers pop music with enthusiasm so infectious, it rivals the choruses of its subjects. There's a distinctly British voice and taste level (get ready for Kylie, Kylie, Kylie!), but that mostly means for us in the States that we're ahead of the pack when the stuff Popjustice told you about first crosses over the Atlantic months later. Always, smart about what snobs would call "dumb" music, Popjustice is also capable of the seeming impossible: through a recent preview post, it got the Internet even more hyped up about Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" than it already was. Awe-inspiring.

Any decent online TV recapper will hear, "Your recaps are better than the show!" That's hard to gauge (such cross-media comparisons amount to judging chocolate chips against microchips)…except in the case of someone as funny as Max Silvestri, whose recaps of Top Chef for Eater sauté a regularly dry show in purified humor. Max also has a Tumblr that he doesn't update enough, and his Twitter's hilarious, too. Really, he wouldn't probably even consider the Internet his primary medium -- he's a standup comic and hosts Brooklyn's ridiculously popular weekly Big Terrific show with Gabe Liedman and Jenny Slate. The fact that he's so good at something that's more or less secondary proves that the guy is just oozing talent.

Blogs for the Village Voice's Sound of the City, but his real claim to fame is his 1000TimesYes Twitter account, in which he condenses his thoughts on albums into tweet-sized reviews. After all, if you can't beat consumers' ADHD, speak to it. If brevity is the soul of wit, 1000TimesYes is hope that kids these days understand the concept.

Nobody does black celebrity gossip like Fresh does, and that's exactly why she isn't running the world (and exactly why she should be). She's specific and flat-out weird, while her content is utterly mainstream and the collision of sensibilities is what makes Crunk & Disorderly such a special place not just among gossip blogs, but in media, period. Her content is never unfunny and her bells and whistles (giving a 1 through 5 Sad Gabourey Sidibe rating on particularly tragic posts, subject categories like "Why Must I Cry?" and "Come And Get Your Cousins Out the Studio Please") say so much about her eye for detail.
